What Is the Purpose of Music in Worship?
From the moment we wake up and start our day and move on to various tasks of the day like driving to work, getting groceries, cleaning, working out at the gym, and other such tasks, listening to various kinds of music is common to these tasks. Such is the relationship of humans with music that they associate their feelings and emotions with it. No wonder why music is a prominent tool in worship as well that enables humans to create a close connection with the divine.
Christian music has diversified a great deal in the
last few decades and has transformed while being in contact with modern music
forms. There are some of the best Christian songs by
famous artists, which made contemporary Christian music famous. Contemporary
Christian music is all about expressing one’s beliefs and views associated with
the Christian culture and religion in the form of music.
The hymns and spiritual songs dwelled in a
Christian’s faith, and Christian songs today work as the perfect source to
indulge the newer generation in the worship of God. The melody and phrasing of
the music make the faith memorable. Christian music provides a way to
understand the hymns and the scripture while touching millions of hearts and
souls with the melody and phrasing. It helps the younger kids learn the gospels
by heart with a rhythm.
The purpose of music in one’s life goes beyond
instructions. It connects us to God in a unique way. It allows different kinds
of humans to create a direct connection with God in ways sermons can’t or
don’t. It allows people to make a deeper connection with God by intensifying
their emotions and speaking to the divine power with a part of their hearts. This
degree of effectiveness is hard to achieve with the spoken word. You must have
noticed, music or singing positive songs creates something within. Something
incredible happens when people sing their hearts out. they feel happier and
more lovable. Now imagine the power of music combined with the power of faith.
This amalgamation of music and faith generates positivity and hope that is
stronger than anything else.
The scripture commands the believers to “love the
Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your
might” (Deuteronomy 6:5 NRSV). This verse emphasizes loving your God with the
entire body, and not just outwardly but from the heart and soul. It involves
expressing deep devotion and love for God.
